Lightning Mind
A poem reflecting on consciousness through the metaphor of a thunderstorm.
Behind this piece
About
A reflection on consciousness inspired by a lightning storm.
This poem explores the strange parallel between weather and awareness—the way order and perception emerge from patterns that often appear chaotic from within.
Rather than treating thought as mechanical or fixed, I imagine the mind as something dynamic, alive, and momentary: flashes of energy illuminating structure only briefly before returning again to mystery.
Insight
One of the things that has always fascinated me is that awareness feels both immediate and impossible.
Thoughts appear. Images arise. Emotions move. Associations form.
And somehow, from all of that motion, there is the experience of being someone.
This poem came from watching a thunderstorm and feeling struck by how similar it seemed to the experience of thinking.
Electricity moving through hidden pathways.
Patterns appearing and disappearing.
Complexity emerging from interactions too numerous to consciously track.
The lighting insight that stayed with me was not the storm itself—it was the realization that awareness feels less like a static object and more like an instantaneous illumination, moment by moment.
A brief flash revealing an entire universe.
