poem

reprieve

A brief meditation on rest, enoughness, and the quiet relief of allowing nothing to be required.

reprieve
oh what magic
in that quiet moment
when nothing needs doing
sigh and relish

Behind this piece

About

A tiny poem about relief.

Not the relief of solving, achieving, fixing, or arriving.

Just the simple and often forgotten experience of realizing, if only for a moment, that nothing is required.

  • No striving.
  • No improvement.
  • No becoming.

Only being.

Insight

This poem arrived all at once. It felt less written than noticed.

I think there are moments that happen quietly where the nervous system suddenly realizes there is nowhere else to be and nothing else to accomplish. And in those moments there can be a strange kind of abundance.

  • Not excitement.
  • Not ecstasy.
  • Just release.

I intentionally kept this piece extremely short because adding more felt like breaking the spell.

The poem does not try to explain the moment.

Only to pause inside it long enough to feel it.
